The future of work. Will it be filled with robots and AI? What about the people who, you know, depend on their jobs to live?
There’s a lot of talk about what will happen to the labor market. People – and by that, we mean experts – seem to disagree. In the tech world, people really believe that robots are the future. Economists, on the other hand, say that people will never be replaced.
Either way, HR will have their hands full. To help understand the past, where we are now, and where we may be going. Vox took a deep dive into the future of work. Check it out here:
One of the core ideas presented in the video is that we can see how tech displaces workers, right? For example, elevator attendants. But it’s a lot harder for us to understand and foresee how many jobs these technologies create. Whole new sectors of work open up when this disruption happens.
The argument now, however, is a bit more nuanced. In short, the theory is this: sure, past tech expanses have killed off some jobs while creating others, but we’re in a new age – the AI age. So what does that mean?
The video goes into detail about each of these ideas and aims to explain whether or not we should worry about the future of work.
